I'm about a week late with this wrap up report. I apologize. I had no idea how far behind I was! You should have seen all the emails needing tending to. Just to remind you, We Support the Blue is a month of giving dreamed up by our (Harry Robinson Buick GMC) General Sales Manager Scott, and gives $100 for every vehicle sold to local law enforcement. He wanted to do something for them in the wake of the death of beloved Sebastian County Sheriff's Deputy, Cpl. Bill Cooper. He said to me, "they're going through a lot, the the police forces of the entire nation is going through a lot, and it's hit home for us, we've got to do something to show them that we love and support them". I was sold! Scott then proceeded to meet with Fort Smith Police Department and Sebastian County Sheriff's Office officials to find out how we could most effectively help them. What do they really need? The answer? The desperately need equipment, training and other resources. The need new dash cams and there is no money provided to do so. The had several key things they would invest money in if it were available. After that, with the help of Tommy Craft, Scott was able to secure sponsorships for t-shirts, hats and visors to be sold, all of the money going to local law enforcement. They secured advertising & started taking every available opportunity to get the word out that we would be donating $100 for every vehicle sold during the month of October. We volunteered extra shifts, our spouses volunteered, our kids volunteered, all the #FreeGasFriday winners were local law enforcement officers, we had cookouts, and giveaways and we raised a good chunk of change for our local law enforcement officers.
I feel so blessed to have a work family so committed to Fort Smith, Sebastian County and the River Valley. Thank you to everyone who purchased a vehicle, to the volunteers, everyone who purchased We Support the Blue merchandise, everyone who donated, Ashby Street Outdoor Advertising, Times Record, ESPN Arkansas, KISR, Big Country 107.3, SPIRIT 106.3, Kappa Alpha (KA), Kool Oldies 104.7, iHeart Radio, Sheepdog Impact, the entire sales staff for putting in serious work, Polly (our executive assistant) for doing everything!, Mike Tisevich (our body shop manager), all of the other departments for volunteering outside of your scheduled hours, Fort Smith Police Dept, Sebastian County Sheriff's Dept, Scott for having such a wonderful and inspiring idea & Tommy Craft (big time!) for taking an idea and making it come together. All yall are super awesome! Let's do it again! :)
