We knocked the X-Class in our last video about it, but as it turns out, Mercedes-Benz does know how to build a truck. Granted, it's expensive, ultra luxury, and not available in the USA, but it's actually a solid truck!

In October of last year Mercedes-Benz revealed it's two prototype trucks, "Powerful Adventurer" and "Stylish Explorer." They said the production truck would be pretty close to the prototypes, so let's take a look at the Mercedes-Benz X-Class

Now, you know us, we're not afraid to say we don't like a new vehicle, and we were ready to talk shit about this Mercedes-Benz X-Class but then we realized, Hey, it's not actually so bad.

Sure, the 53 page press release about the X-Class is verbose and primarily meant to evoke a certain sense of style and class, rather than simply tell you about the truck's capabilities. I mean, even the press videos that Mercedes has released furthers the idea that this is a truck for those that demand *more* from life.

But honestly, when we really get down to it, this is a truck. It functions like a truck, drives like a truck and even provides a large number of customization options like a truck. Some of those options include hard, soft and roll up tonneau covers, a headache rack which they're calling a styling bar, bed cap, and side steps to protect your Gucci Boots

We were going to bemoan the weak engine options, but then we took at look at the competition. This is a midsize truck that's not for sale in the US, and it is pretty comparable in power to other midsize trucks in the international and US markets.

The least powerful option is 163hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty damn close to the Tacoma's stock engine. The X-Class's most power engine makes 258 hp and 405 ft-lb of torque.

To put that in perspective, the Chevy Colorado's diesel engine makes 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It's even comparable in wheelbase, ground clearance and other stats truck fans care about.

Now, the X-Class is significantly more expensive than the Colorado & Canyon brothers. The highest luxury trim level Canyon Denali is priced at around $48,000 with the diesel, while the base model X-Class starts at $42,770. And if there's anything we know about luxury vehicles, it's that the options can quickly add up.

And the X-Class is absolutely a luxury truck, the interior features show that. It's got a number of leather options and in the press release the interior "exudes high quality and a
sense of modern luxury"

Despite the luxury, Mercedes claims the X-Class has a 2,400 lb payload capacity and 7,700 lb towing capacity.

In a previous video we talked about our five favorite pickups that we can't buy in the US and a number of people brought up the Nissan Navara in the comments, which has the same platform as the X-Class.

So honestly, we can not heavily fault this truck. It's capable, comparable, and will definitely be luxurious. Some of the cost is simply because it's Mercedes, but who are we to judge a truck on 1its cost alone?
