If you have trouble reading this message, view it in a browser. This week Genesis showed a stunning concept, Rivian details its warranty, peek inside the EQS luxury sedan, and get to know Extreme E, an off-road EV racing series. But first: President Joe Biden unveiled the American Jobs Plan this week, wherein he proposed $174 billion "to win the EV market." The proposal includes point-of-sale rebates and tax incentives, a national network of half a million EV chargers by 2030, and replacing 50,000 diesel transit buses, among other things. The fine print on those rebates and tax credits are forthcoming, but it could include some kind of point-of-sale incentive for buyers of American-made electrics trading in gas cars. Today, automakers can offer federal income tax credits to their first 200,000 customers, which means that Tesla—the leading producer of battery cars—is no longer able to offer them. Environmental and EV advocates applauded the proposal, but some are pushing for even more commitment, including a call to set a date for ending the sale of internal-combustion cars altogether. Catch up on the details here. The EQS' massive glass dash called the Hyperscreen. Tesla may have popularized the oversized touchscreen, prompting plenty of automakers to copy the move, but Mercedes-Benz will soon offer something even grander. The automaker wants to transform the entire dashboard into a screen, akin to a control station from the bridge of the starship Enterprise. And it will have an equally sci-fi name to fit: the Hyperscreen. As deployed in the EQS fullsize luxury sedan, the Hyperscreen spans 56 inches, occupies 2.6 square feet of dash space, and actually features three distinct screen areas. The optional Hyperscreen will combine a host of other design and functional elements. Mercedes also released a 770-km (478 miles) WLTP estimate for the EQS, which could translate to around 400 miles. The full reveal of the sedan is scheduled for April 15. Along with Porsche and Audi entries in the large EV sedan category, Tesla's command of the segment is about to be challenged by Team Germany. ![]() Genesis dropped this beauty on the world this week, and while there are no details about the powertrain of the Genesis X, Kia EV6's 577 hp would fit the performance expectations of this concept perfectly. Also don't expect to see this make it to production, but the design direction it reinforces is encouraging. Lexus took the wraps off the LF-Z concept this week, giving a world a glimpse at its electrified—if not entirely electric—future. The luxury brand, along with parent company Toyota, has faced criticism over its reluctance to embrace EVs more fully, and while the latest concept is a step in the right direction, Lexus is still leaving itself some room to maneuver, powertrain-wise.
