The Mercedes-AMG EQE Is a 677-HP Electric Rocket

This week Mercedes-AMG detailed the latest addition to its battery-electric roster, with the EQE promising to bring well over 600 hp to the performance electric sedan in the brand's rapidly-growing EV lineup. Powered by 90.6-kWh battery, the sleek dual-motor four-door will arrive on sale stateside in 2023.
"The compact format of the EQE forms the perfect starting point for realizing a highly agile and very emotional driving experience with our AMG-specific solutions," said Jochen Hermann, Chief Technical Officer of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. "This applies in particular to the areas of drive, chassis, brakes and, above all, sound. This ensures that our customers can also look forward to our brand's hallmark Driving Performance in our second all-electric model series."

The AMG version of the EQE will follow the debut of the standard model.

But the EQE will be more than just about giggle-inducing performance, as the model is intended to be just as plush inside as its larger EQS sibling, complete with the optional Hyperscreen.

The EQE 53 won't have too many direct rivals when it lands here next year, with the upcoming electric BMW i5 also expected to arrive in 2023 with a performance variant likely not far behind. So the EQE 53 may have this narrow niche to itself only for a short period of time.

Fisker Opens Reservations for Its Affordable PEAR

Fisker has revealed only this teaser image of its planned PEAR.

Speaking of new EVs, this week Fisker opened up reservations for an EV that it hasn't even revealed yet. Dubbed the Fisker PEAR, or Personal Electric Automotive Revolution, the planned model is intended to be an affordable, five-passenger urban EV, with a starting price of $29,900 before taxes and any state or federal incentives. However, the company hasn't shared any planned technical target figures.
The EV will be produced for Fisker by electronics giant Foxconn, famous for producing the Apple iPhone, with production expected to start in 2024 at the Lordstown Motors plant in Ohio, after Foxconn signed an operating agreement with the EV truck start-up.
"PEAR will feature the very latest technology in a beautifully designed, affordable urban mobility device," CEO Henrik Fisker said. "It's an exciting vehicle and an exciting time for the company as we expand our lineup."
Fisker has a busy year ahead of it, as production of its Ocean SUV is expected to start later this year in Europe. So quite a lot has to fall into place between now and 2024 when the PEAR is promised to arrive.

EV Maker XPeng Is Boosting Its Presence in Europe

Amid record demand for EVs in northern Europe, China's XPeng is headed to more countries on the continent after establishing a foothold in Norway in 2020.
