GM Remains Committed to China Despite Steadily Plummeting Sales      General Motors has been present in China since the late 1990s, and by GM we mostly mean Buick. In fact, Buick was among the first foreign brands to launch local production in the modern era of the country, after Volkswagen had set up a joint venture in the 1980s.    But as China's EV industry surges, GM's presence in the Middle Kingdom has lost much of its momentum, with its share of the market falling quite abruptly, even though the Buick brand still offers a dizzying variety of vehicles.    Can GM hang on in the face of this much domestic competition, especially in the EV age? READ THE FULL STORY Biden Administration Quadruples-Down on Chinese EV Import Tariffs         Automakers from China have been talking about starting sales stateside since before the EV era even got going. But now that a significant chunk of all EVs sold in Europe come from China, and Mexico has been importing EVs from China as well, the prospect of Chinese brands selling EVs stateside has suddenly become a lot more realistic.    And one of the vehicles that has the US auto industry fearing "dumping" is the BYD Seagull—an EV hatch that starts at about $12,000 in China.    The Biden administration has revealed plans for a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs, but the auto industry isn't the only one that could suddenly see steep tariffs.     Here's the latest on this brewing trade war. READ THE FULL STORY  Protesters Try to Storm Tesla's Berlin Plant         Last week hundreds of protesters marched near Tesla's Berlin-Brandenburg gigafactory in another planned day of action that saw quite a few scuffles with police.       And just weeks ago arson had shut down the plant for nearly a week.       While there were several groups that took part in the protests with varying agendas, most of them appear to oppose deforestation and high water usage near the plant as part of an expansion of the plant, as Tesla seeks to increase its annual output.
