If the past year and a half have proven anything in the EV sphere, it's that consumer demand is fickle and EV adoption could grow in bursts rather than a steady climb.
This means automakers will have to remain very nimble for the foreseeable future, offering a variety of PHEVs, EVs, hybrids, internal combustion models, and FCEVs, no matter how much battery-electric models could seem like "the future" at any given point. Perhaps it's safe to say the auto industry has never been pulled in so many directions at once when it comes to powertrains, while being required to turn on a dime.
"Manufacturers around the world are developing more dynamic platforms for their future products," Sam Fiorani, vice president for Global Vehicle Forecasting for AFS and co-author of AFS Monthly's special report on the auto industry's EV transition, told Autoweek via email.

Jeep Revives Renegade as a Budget Electric SUV

Depending on who you listen to, the $25,000 Tesla is either imminent, still pending, postponed, or canceled outright.
But a $25,000 Jeep EV is definitely on the way, the automaker revealed, and it could become a volume seller for the brand.
This week Jeep unveiled plans to bring back the Renegade as an affordable electric model, now that Europe already has the Jeep Avenger to play with. And the demand for such a model is seemingly here already, even though parent company Stellantis has kicked off the most recent EV era in the US with the pocket-sized Fiat 500e.
But a few other electric Jeeps will get here first before the Renegade EV, starting later this year.
