A couple of months ago Fisker signaled it might file for bankruptcy, in a move that was preceded by plenty of emergency efforts, including steep price cuts on its Ocean SUV and a sudden turn toward the dealership sales model. But Fisker had been warning for months that it was running out of cash, and conducted talks with a number of automakers looking for an investment to keep itself afloat. This week the EV startup finally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. "Like other companies in the electric-vehicle industry, we have faced various market and macroeconomic headwinds that have impacted our ability to operate efficiently," Fisker said in a statement.
