2024 Hybrid Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Is Quickest 'Vette Ever

We knew it was only a matter of time before we'd see an electric motor in a Corvette, and that such a debut would be a milestone for Chevrolet and for the nameplate.
Earlier this week Chevrolet revealed details of the Corvette E-Ray, which pairs the LT2 V8 with an electric motor at the front axle, all in the name of performance.
That's right: Chevy has teamed up the 6.2-liter V8, which by itself produces 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, with a 1.9-kWh battery and an electric motor that will add well over 100 hp to the total. Among the benefits will be launches from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, but there is more to this setup than rocket-grade acceleration.
For starters, drivers will be able to cruise around in electric mode at up to 45 mph, making the Corvette E-Ray very quiet when needed. And this version of the Corvette will also feature regenerative braking.

Now that the Detroit Auto Show is no longer in January, the most important event that kicks off the year is the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, especially when it comes to EVs. This year did not disappoint with a long list of debuts and more than its fair share of futuristic concepts.
Aside from the bumper crop of autonomous shuttle concepts and electric boats—both CES staples at this point—we saw a new type of approach to inductive charging from truck maker Ram, and it looks like a Roomba. The small charging robot automatically positions itself underneath a car once it's inside the garage, and scoots underneath the battery to charge it without making contact.
"It detects the vehicle's presence and its charging needs, and automatically moves into position and aligns itself under the vehicle," the automaker said. "Smart-charge capability will allow charging during off-peak time, providing more convenience and peace-of-mind for our customers."
Inductive charging has been around for a while, but it's one of those technologies that isn't yet mainstream with EV owners. But is Ram's approach better than simply a charging pad?

Volvo Plans Electric Minivan, Report Says

Despite all the EVs that have debuted just the past couple of years, we have yet to see an electric minivan in North America. Sure, Ford has been building the E-Transit for about a year now, available in passenger van form, but that's not quite the same as a minivan a young family would buy.
Volvo appears to be planning just such a model, CarNewsChina reported a few days ago, based on the Zeekr 009 that was revealed back in 2022. And it appears to be months away from a debut.
If the Zeekr 009 is any indication, the luxury minivan could offer a range of up to 511 miles in the CLTC cycle thanks to a massive battery. The Volvo version is reported to be planned for China at this point, where luxury minivans are a popular segment.
But is Volvo likely to offer such a model in North America or Europe?
